Our Mission

A place to shoot well, hunt hard, and be trusted with the keys.

Aaron Rochon founded Back40 on a passion he has carried his whole life. It started in the Boy Scouts of America and grew over years of chasing whitetail with his father, beginning in youth season when he was still a boy.

In 2026 he put that behind 60 acres of Ray County timber: 300 yards of rifle line, an open pistol line, managed whitetail ground out back, and an old ranch-style farmhouse being renovated into the clubhouse.

The goal was a safe, controlled environment and a genuine sense of community for like-minded people who share that same passion.

We stay deliberately small. Every applicant is reviewed, every member is vetted, and every person on this property is expected to know the rules cold. That is what earns you your own gate credential and the run of the place from dawn to dusk.

The Long Line

Three hundred yards today. One thousand is the goal.

The range sits in a natural valley near the creek bottoms, where the hillsides themselves form the backstop. Eight open-air shooting benches span more than 130 feet of firing line, with steel gongs and paper frames staged at 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 yards. Bring your own chronograph and a load book. This is a line built for people who care what their groups actually measure.

The line is being extended on work days, dug out and pushed downrange as the membership grows. The end goal is a full 1,000 yards.

Why people join — and stay

I drove past a dozen ranges to get here and I'd do it again. Three hundred yards, no line, and nobody rushing you off the bench.

Joined in the first year and I've been out on the work days since. You can see the line getting longer — it's satisfying to have a hand in it.

Safety culture here is the real draw. Everybody knows the rules, everybody follows them, and the range officers are genuinely helpful.
